Childhood Pet

Meg's Prompt: First childhood pet...
I remember not having pets at all until my parents divorced and my dad met my stepmother. My stepmom had 3 children of her own, Mike, Jimmy & Becky and they all had pets. Becky had a cat named Tiger, they had a rabbit named Fire Eyes (who had just had bunnies the day I walked into their home for the first time). They had a St. Bernard named George - biggest dog I had ever seen and Jimmy had a turantula and an alligator (Yes, I'm being sincere - he even stuck a piece of paper in the cage and the alligator bit it and I was offered an "autograph"!) I remember his room being pretty rank smelling too!

But that was not the question... Ok, so there's a reason I included all that information... I was such a nurturer even as a little girl. I loved my babies... babies of any kind. I loved my stuffed animals as much as my baby dolls - I remember dreaming about stuffed animals I loved them so much. Since I was never allowed any real animals and I was in the throws of coping with the divorce of my parents, the "animal house" environment of my new family suited me very well. My first pet came into that home in the form of a guinea pig named Tubsy. About a year after my parents divorced my Mom moved us from Maryland to Florida. I hated it. Hated being away from my Father and my Grandparents. My Mom even tried the animal thing and got a Lapso Apso that we named "Poshy". (In retrospect, that's pretty amazing that she did that now that I think about it).

Back to Tubsy. He was so cute. Boy, did I love LOVE that guinea pig! He would sit on my bed and eat lettuce or carrots and he's squeak and we'd talk. Living there with my step-family was hard. I felt so much like an outsider and having my own pet gave me a sense of belonging. Saturday mornings were cage cleaning day - fun, fun. For some reason I remember saturday mornings as a real family time. Thanks Meg for sending me back in time :). What a crazy life.

Belle of the Ball

Senior Prom. Saturday night. My best friend Natalie made magic for my daughter. Life time moments. Hannah wanting to grow up and be like her big sister and Grandma Mary there trying to balance the scales between both Granddaughters. Watching Kristin with her friends, some new... most life long. It's almost as though I can see her slowly spreading her wings. By August she'll be gone. But not this night... this night she is truly Belle of the Ball.

Rounding 3rd....

Here it is May 22! 9 days til Kristin's Graduation! We made it through Hannah's recital. She was a mess for the dress rehearsal... completely stressed out and lost saturday. But after explaining to her that this was a chance to have fun on the big stage... well, she jumped right on board with that concept! I was so proud of her... We weren't allowed to take flash photo's so my pics are pretty pathetic but here's one... She was in 3 acts; a chicken in Old MacDonald Had a Farm, a sheep in Little Bo Peep Has Lost her Sheep and in the finale as a 50's girl dancing to Wake Up a-Little Susie. She was adorable (lol... spoken like a true mom!)

May Madness!

What a month. A month I would not trade for anything. Full of hope and promise and sentimental moments. It's Spring and getting more and more gorgeous, literally "by the day". I've been living for this month all year. I've been planning for this month all year. Specifically, for the last day of this month which will be the day before Kristin's graduation.

Months ago I told Michael, "please don't plan anything for the month of May, we're booked all month".

Want to hear the plans? lol... like you get a real choice~! First is Hannah's Triple Threat Recital. She's been practicing all year for it and the show goes on on May 14th. Sounds like no biggie, right? Well, try practice recitals both days this weekend. 3 different outfits including shoes and clothes dying episode (which I've never done before!)

Yard sale planned for tomorrow morning... would be a good idea for me to make the signs and go hang them everywhere before we drag out all of our junk only to reinstall it into the over-junked garage!

Then there's Prom. Senior Prom no less. Last Prom forever and ever amen for Kristin on May 20th. Thank goodness she has the beautiful dress. She has the date. She even has the shoes and earrings to match the beautiful dress! Want to hear the funny part? Well, she comes in from work and sits down to talk to me while I'm doing my usual cruising digiscrapbook sites and says to me,"my friends and I have been talking about coming here for pictures before the prom." We also have decided we don't want to go out to dinner, we want you to make dinner". and she smiles up at me with her beautiful "please Mom" smile. I looked at her like she had 3 heads!! And I said, "What, are you crazy? Have you lost your mind? - Go out to eat like you always do before prom or homecoming - Do you not realize what I have going on this month (as though she's not a part of her own graduation) No way I can do this...!!!" and I walked away talking to myself! Of course, the more I thought about it, the more flattered I was and started planning the dinner :) ... I have grand visions of 7 of her friends here in their beautifulness, girls in the bathroom mirrors, guys standing around, all of them going out to the beach and us taking pictures, serving them a wonderful dinner and them driving off in the limo for a magical night at the Prom. What the reality will be is anyone' s guess (or worst nightmare).

Then there's the Graduation. There's the invitiations to the Graduation. The invitations to the Graduation party. Well, the "designer" in me gets going and of course, I can make those myself. Sure if the paper would match, the envelopes would fit, the printer would cooperate, if I had all the right addresses and address labels. Sure then that would be a snap! Oh and did I mention the scanner for the old pics of Kristin's first day of school or her invitation to her Kindergarten Graduation would actually scan right and magically appear on my the hard drive of my laptop! Of course there's then the slide show...Oh now that's a real treat to try to make! Think the music would word from Itunes? No siree buddy...so the songs I wanted to include must be bought and then uploaded onto the laptop, even though I have already bought them from Itunes for .99 each! Think the slide show program would let you move pictures around fairly easily? Ha! Another laughable wish! I'll be lucky to ever get the slide show done in time for her College Graduation!

Michael recommended his catering friend who did the company picnic last year to do the Graduation Barbeque... (Party of 80)! Sounds good to me! Love this husband of mine!

We made up the guest bedroom, installed the queen size bed, new bedding, hung curtains and now only need to get the cable working in there! Window treatment people are coming on Monday and say they can install the treatments within 3 weeks - cutting it close. No biggie if that doesn't happen.

Ok, now that I've written a book... truth is, I wouldn't trade this month for anything!
